Part of my teaching life is the very traditional passing on of the secrets of Bach's four-part chorales. I wondered at some point if one would translate to a ukulele. Once I determined that the answer was yes, it then become a more routine compositional task of creating an interesting structure. Given that I had already had some success with contrapuntal writing, the obvious choice was to vary the texture, so it goes between one-, two-, three-, and four-part harmony in the middle section.

Much of this duet depends merely on a steady slow pulse between the players. In the B section, there is suddenly a need for real co-ordination, as the parts should sound independent, yet interlocking.
