Etudes

The Ukulele Carols is a collection of some of the best loved Christmas Carols from the United States and United Kingdom. They have been arranged for between one and three players, depending on the carol, and each arrangement allows for mixed skill performers. None of them is particularly advanced. Like the original Christmas carols, they are designed to be enjoyed by everyone. Please note, these are traditional carols, not modern Christmas songs.

Etudes

The Gratis Etudes are my small way of saying a big thank you to the ukulele community. When I embarked on writing a set of easier etudes, suited for the advancing beginner, I didn't know what course I would take. But it quickly became clear to me that these ten short works would be a gift. They range from quite straightforward to a bit more challenging, and would be a good introduction to instrumental ukulele music.

Etudes

The duets are my second book of ukulele compositions. Each explores a different time and place, from the austerity of Bach's 18th century Weimar to the foot-stompin' woods of 1950s Kentucky. The ukulele is such a social instrument, it seemed like a good plan to write something to bring people together. The idea itself came from the fine people at the Ukulele Underground forum. Some duets focus on tune and accompaniment, with differing skill levels for each part, while others have both players working at roughly the same level. While many of the pieces are classical, I've tried to work with a broad palette of ukulele colours.

Etudes

Etudes are typically written by composers so that students of an instrument can work on particular techniques. After having played guitar for twenty years, I came to the ukulele, an instrument at once familiar and strange. These etudes were a way for me to explore the ukulele, to discover the ukulele's own peculiarities and idiosyncrasies. I believe that many people in my position tend to play the ukulele like a small guitar with two missing strings. With these ten etudes, I hope to help others bridge the gap between playing a sort of generic stringed instrument, and playing the ukulele in its own right. It is a wonderfully interesting and unique instrument.

Arrangements

Etudes

Mozart's famous string serenade, arranged for ukulele quartet. This is an intermediate piece, though Ukulele 4 is generally quite a lot easier than the other three parts. Including parts, you get 123 pages, so I would recommend printing as and when you're ready for the next challenge. The movements to Eine Kleine Nachtmusik are often performed individually, so if you fancy the slow 2nd movement, or the lively 4th, learn them in whichever order you choose. If you don't have three fingerpicking friends, this could be a multi-track recording challenge for you!
